(UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Centre and the state of Jammu and Kashmir on a PIL challenging the policy of Omar Abdullah Government granting pardon to Kashmiri militants who surrender before security forces.

The petitioner has contended that such a policy shall prove detrimental to national security since Pak-trained terrorists, guilty of killing a large number of innocent people, were also being let off.

Under the surrender and rehabilitation policy for terrorists in the state, the state government not only grants pardon but also gives them financial aid on the pretext of bringing them back in the national mainstream, the petition said.

Recently, there was a case a terror suspect Liaqat Amed Shah who was nabbed by security forces but the J and K Police claimed that he was coming to surrender before them. The claim of J and K Police was hotly contested by Delhi police. UNI
